Hospital Beds FAQ

What is the difference between a full-electric and semi-electric hospital bed?

A full-electric hospital bed adjusts the head, foot, and overall bed height using a hand control everything is motorized. A semi-electric bed uses the hand control for the head and foot sections but requires a manual crank to change the overall bed height. Full-electric beds are easier for both the patient and the caregiver because you can raise or lower the bed to a comfortable transfer height with the push of a button. If the patient gets in and out of bed frequently or the caregiver needs to adjust bed height often, a full-electric is worth the extra investment.

What kind of mattress do I need for a hospital bed?

Hospital beds use a standard hospital bed mattress, typically 36 inches wide by 80 inches long and 6 inches thick. We carry innerspring, foam, and pressure-redistribution mattresses depending on the patient's comfort needs and medical condition. For patients at risk of pressure sores or who will be in bed for extended periods, we recommend a low air loss mattress, which alternates air pressure to reduce skin breakdown. Our team can help you choose the right mattress based on the patient's situation.
